Audi Concept with OLED Lights Teased for IAA

2015 audi oled lighting technology 600x337 at Audi Concept with OLED Lights Teased for IAA

Audi has been deep into lights this past couple of years, trying to perfect their LED-based technologies in hope to beat BMW’s laser headlights. The latest development in what they call Matrix OLED lights and they will be introduced on a brand-new concept that’ll make debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.

As you would expect, the new Audi OLED lights promises new levels of previously unattainable lighting homogeneity which illuminates a much larger area and much better. But they have another advantage that is of even greater importance, and that’s how they enable the designers to come up with more creative looks. OLED lights have a cool 3D look about them and they can be arranged in any number of ways.

OLED stands for “organic light emitting diode” and the way it works can be summarized as follows: the unit comprises two electrodes of which at least one must be transparent and numerous thin layers of organic semiconductor materials. A low voltage DC current excites the this material and illuminates them. The color is based on the molecular composition of the light source and they can be subdivided into small segments that can be controlled at different brightness level.

Audi has not revealed any further details about the concept cars that will be rocking the new lights at IAA at this point.
