The one-off Audi RS6 DTM wide body formerly owned by sports personality Jon Olsson was found burned to a crisp after it was stolen on Wednesday in the Netherlands. The car was nicked at gunpoint from its new owner and his cameraman during a video shoot.

Now, at first you might think the thieves were just unhappy with what Olsson had done with his Audi RS6 DTM and decided to teach him a lesson by burning the car; a hate crime of sorts. But no. The reason they torched the vehicle was because they shut the car down not realizing it has keyless go and the key fob was still with the owner. So they couldn’t restart the car after turning it off.

This is quite incredible, but also believable. Those thieves were thick enough to steal a car as well-known and as conspicuous as that 900 horsepower Audi RS6 DTM, so we can believe they were stupid enough not to realize the car has push button start and no key in it. It is a very sad thing, what they’ve done with the car. But at least they didn’t get to sell it or stripe it for parts. Olsson’t DTM-spec RS6 was reportedly sold for half a million dollar to its new owner.
