In a new video and a few photos, Mercedes-Benz completely revealed the interior design of the 2016 Mercedes E-Class prior to its debut at the NAIAS Detroit Motor Show in January. They did it as a teaser of sorts, and also because the cabin looks pretty much looks like any other current production Mercedes.

Still, there are some innovative new features one may find intriguing. The main highlight of the 2016 Mercedes E-Class interior is a wide high-resolution next-generation dual display (12.3 inches per display) that appears to hover in space. Inspired by that of the S-Class, this display boasts a resolution of 1920 x 720 pixels and complements the virtual instrument panel which even offers themes, including “Classic”, “Sport” and “Progressive”.

Another new feature is the touch sensitive buttons on the steering wheel that respond precisely to horizontal and vertical finger swipes. Sounds impractical and distracting, but Mercedes designers rarely make mistakes when it comes to luxury features and technologies. But just to be sure, another four buttons in each switch panel are provided with the familiar functions, such as for volume control and telephone control.

2016 Mercedes E-Class also comes with the more conventional touchpad on the centre console with handwriting recognition, COMAND controller and LINGUATRONIC voice control, plus an optional Burmester high-end 3D surround sound system. The high-tech features are complemented with comfy first-class seats wrapped in plush leather, while the dash can be garnished with trims from the designo catalog. There is even an ambient lighting system with 64 colors.
