New York International Auto Show is where Volkswagen will officially introduce the U.S.-spec version of the 2017 VW Golf Alltrack to the American public. Based on the Golf SportWagen, the Alltrack Golf is a versatile and capable family wagon with a dash of style.

That’s a recipe for success in Europe, but it remains to be seen how the Americans will react to what VW Golf Alltrack has to offer. There are a lot of good things about this car, but wagon body style has never been a favorite of the Yanks, especially one as prissy looking as this Golf. That’s what the Euro boys call classy, but it’s a different culture across the pond.

At any rate, VW Golf Alltrack boasts a brilliant 170 horsepower 1,8 liter turbocharged engine mated to a six-speed dual-clutch DSG and 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. The latter is really what sets this car apart from pretty much anything else in this segment with the exception of the Subaru Impreza. The Golf even comes with an “Off-Road Mode,” which adds hill descent control and optimizes traction control for off-road terrain.

The Alltrack also looks a bit offroad-y, what with the unique bumpers, wheel wells and side sills, as well as 17 or 18 inch wheels (depending on the trim). Interior highlights include unique brown leatherette option in addition to aluminum pedal covers, door sills with Alltrack branding and ambient lighting. And as for equipment, you get 6.5-inch capacitive color touchscreen with proximity sensor, rearview camera, and VW Car-Net App-Connect connectivity.
