Volkswagen revealed the MSRP for the new station wagon version of the Golf, known as Golf SportWagen in the American market, ahead of its market launch in April. The practical family car starts from $21,395 for the 1.8T S model with manual transmission.
The 2015 Golf SportWagen launches with two engines, including the 1.8-liter, 170-horsepower turbocharged TSI petrol units, and the 2.0-liter, 150-hp turbocharged TDI diesel. Both can be had with manual or automatic transmissions, but only the diesel version gets the DSG dual-clutch tranny.
Mind you, the diesel also costs more, starting from $24,595. On the upside, the diesel Golf SportWagen can manage 43 mpg highway, whereas the petrol has a rating of 36 mpg. In terms of practicality, the MQB-based car offers 0.4 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 66.5 cubic feet with the seats folded flat.
2015 Golf SportWagen boasts a long list of high-end features you can specify, including Fender Premium Audio System and Climatronic automatic air conditioning, Automatic Post-Collision Braking, the Forward Collision Warning System, and front and rear Park Distance Control, as well as LED Daytime Running Lights and the Adaptive Front-lighting System.
