The 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 is going to be a meeting point for some significant milestones and cool numbers. First, there’s the centenary of the race itself, of course, but what’s more, the race will be paced by a special Camaro SS 50th Anniversary which marks an important date in the car’s history.

Another figure that might of interest to Camaro fans is the fact the it will be he ninth time Camaro has served as the pace car and the 27th time for Chevrolet. The story of Chevy and the Indy 500 dates back to 1948, so it is only fitting for this brand to have the honor of pacing the 100th event, and the reason they sent their most important product for the job.

That’s right, the Camaro is currently a hotter and more strategic product for Chevy than even the Corvette. And the pace-mobile, the Camaro SS 50th Anniversary, is particularly hot as it comes with a number of exclusive features such as Nightfall Gray Metallic paint work with 50th anniversary stripe package, 20-inch 50th Anniversary wheels, sating chrome grille, body-colored spoilers, 20-inch 50th Anniversary wheels, orange brake calipers and interior stitching, leather and suede seats, standard RS Appearance Package, and special badges and emblems.

Driving the 2017 Camaro SS 50th Anniversary at the 100th Indianapolis 500 will be motorsports legend Roger Penske, who is himself celebrating 50 years as a race team owner.
