Granted, there is no way the new Top Gear is going to be better, funnier or more entertaining than the old one, and yes, it is going to be crushed by the Grand Tour. But if you just watch these shows for the sake of the cars, the new TG is going to set your pants on fire.

The new TG team has put together some properly hot cars for the debut season driven in some exotic places from Morocco, to Abu Dhabi, to West Coast America. You’ll get reviews of the latest Ferraris, a test of Aston Martin Vulcan, the new Mustang GT is there as is the Hoonicorn Mustang, Ariel Nomad, Rolls-Royce Wraith, Audi R8, and…

The show will also include the same sort of cheap car challenges and races in which they pit a car against something that isn’t a car but has a real chance of beating the car. These, we reckon, will be the part where the new Top Gear will blow it. Such challenges aren’t fun in themselves. It was the charm of Clarkson, Hammond and May’s characters that made them watchable. And we’re not sure we will get the same from Evans, LeBlanc, Schmitz, Harris, and the other two whose names escape us.
