BMW M8 Officially Confirmed

bmw m8 prototype 600x359 at BMW M8 Officially Confirmed

We knew when BMW unveiled the new 8 Series concept that it was more than a show car, but we had no idea they have a full career already planned out for this thing. So here’s the deal: after a production 8 Series came out in 2018 they will release a hot version, naturally called BMW M8, and besides they are going racing with the new 8er with the M8 GTE which is already under development.

So much is happening in Bavaria then, and we sure can’t wait to see this new BMW M8. If the concept 8 Series is any indication the M version is going to look hella sexy, even though it’s a big gal and it’s not easy for big things to be sexy. Hopefully in the transition to a production model the 8er will lose some of its fat and get slimmer. There’s no word yet on the kind of engine and power figures we can expect, but BMW says the M8 will boast traditional M features “like larger air intakes, modified brakes and a sports exhaust with four tailpipes.”

“The conception and development of the standard BMW 8 Series and the M model run in parallel,” explains Frank van Meel, President BMW M Division. “The future BMW M8 will build on the genes of the 8 Series and augment its DNA with added track ability and generous extra portions of dynamic sharpness, precision and agility. It all flows into a driving experience that bears the familiar BMW M hallmarks and satisfies our customers’ most exacting requirements.”
