Mitsubishi Pajero has always had a steady, rather boring, life. It’s a very fine blend of practicality, reliability and good value, but there is not much excitement in it. For 2010 Mitsubishi offers a new model which looks exactly the same as the old one but has better performance and less consumption.
The key to these improvements is a new diesel engine! It’s a 3.2 liter DI-D Common-Rail Turbo diesel which develops 200hp and 441 nm of torque. It is 25 percent more powerful than the engine it replaces, but still 200 hp is nowhere near enough for this big car which weighs a million tons.
But then, the whole point of a diesel engine is fuel economy and that’s where the new Pajero, given it’s size and functions, really shines. With a five-speed manual gearbox it only burns 8.5 liters of fuel per 100km putting out 224g of CO2 every km. If you opt for the automatic transmission, you gotta live with consumption of 9.3liters oer 100km.
2010 Mitsubishi Pajero (also known as Shogun in Britain) is also improved in terms of ergonomy, practicality and comfort. It has better soundproofing which is a nice feature when you have a disel engine! In the option list there are newly designed 17 and 18 inch wheels, a new improved verison the Mitsubishi’s Multi Communication System (MMCS) which comes with a 40GB hard disk to store music and maps of your navigation system. The car’s towing capability has also been increased, with the three-door model you can tow up to 3 tons of stuff and it’s 3.5 tons for the four-door variant.
Prices for 2010 Mitsubishi Pajero starts from 34,990 Euros for three-door 37,990 Euros for the four-door version with manual gearbox. Automatic variants cost 36,890 and 39,890 Euros.
