Another hot premier of the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show will be undoubtedly this topless Audi R8. Actually we have waited too long for this car to arrive, and it took Audi too long to put finishing touches on it, otherwise the car has been caught as a test mule a long time ago. But it’s finally here extending the R8’s range even further, not to mention there is an electric variant in the works as well.
Featuring a soft-top, the R8 Spider adds another winning card to Audi’s hand. As you know the R8 is one of the best-looking, most fun and yet most affordable supercars on the market and you can have it with a V8 or a V10. Now you also get the fresh air option as well!
The Spider will be only available with the 5.2 liter TFSI engine developing 525hp, and it also differs from the hard-top model visually. Apart from the obvious roof absence, the side blades which are the most important character of the R8 are also gone. But you get a pair of very cool air ducts on the hood! The car also has LED lights front and rear.
