At this year’s Frankfurt motor show, VW has released a new variant of the Golf which is very cool and very hot at the same time! The Golf R is the most powerful Golf ever produced. It comes with some distinguishing visual factors to set it apart form the rest of the range. After all it redefines the whole meaning of hot hatchbacks!

Golf R is powered by a turbocharged version of VW’s 2.0 liter TSI four-banger which develops 270 hp 350 Nm of torque. The performance of the R has been improved accordingly, it takes it only 5.7 seconds (5.5 with DSG gearbox) to get to 100km/h from null but the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h as usual. This engine has an average fuel consumption of 8.5 liter per 100 km/h, which considering its capabilities, is good really.

To cope with the extra power, VW had made some adjustments to the Golf R. The sport chassis of the car has been re-tuned, it has a tweaked 4Motion all-wheel drive system and is fitted with sport 17-inch braking system. The R has 18-inch alloy wheels (“Talladega” type) with 225/40 tyres. As an option, the same wheels are available in a 19-inch version with 235/35 tyres.

Golf R uses some of the styling cues from its bigger brother, the Scirocco. Bumpers with big air intakes all in black, central twin exhaust at the back and new wheel design are some of the new details on the outside. The interior has also refined, a nice combination of grey leather and brushed aluminum give the cabin a very sporty yet classy feel. New features here include the R gearshift knob, carpet floor mats, aluminium door tread plates with R logo and the instruments with their blue pointers. Stainless steel sport pedals and R-specific instrument and door accents in “Silver Lane” style complete the customisation. Another standard feature on the Volkswagen Golf R is an automatic climate control system (“Climatronic”), “RCD 310” radio-CD system (4 x 20 Watt) including MP3 player plus dual tuners.
