Although Audi CEO has recently said that they are not a green company and not even trying to be, rumors are flying around that the amazing e-Tron electric supercar will make into production in 2012, in a limited production number of 1000 units. Audi officials are aware that a car like this might not sell in great numbers, so they have already announced that they will halt the production if the demand was poor! But when it comes out, it’ll be a Tesla killer!

Based on Audi R8, the e-Tron concept is powered by four electric motors powering each of the wheels. They generate a combined power of 313 hp. But the most amazing thing about it is the amount of torque, which in theory if measured at the wheels, is 4,500 nm!!! But the real amount of torque is around 500 nm.

Audi e-Tron will be a high performance EV, as it’s capable of reaching 100k/h from nought in 4.1 seconds and top speed of around 250 km/h. The Tesla Sport might be able to deliver such performance, but the Audi looks a helluva lot better than the American! There is no further detail out yet but the price is expected to be considerably more than the Tesla.
