Next year BMW will offer its 7-series flagship saloon in the North American market with the 3.0 liter N54 inline-6 engine. It’s for the first time after 18 years that the German manufacturer is making a six-cylinder variant of the 7er, and that’s because they didn’t have a good six-cylinder engine for the job! Until now…
You see the 2011 740i and 740Li models, which will debut at 2010 NAIAS, will be equipped with the new twin-turbo and direct-injection six-cylinder engine which is also offered in some of the sport models. This engine is simply amazing! With 315 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque, it delivers good performance while being efficient and rather clean. In the 3-series coupe, this engine results in 0 to 60 acceleration time of under 5 seconds!
Some of the highlights of this amazing powerunit which is optimized by EfficientDynamics for the new 7-series include all-aluminum construction, High Precision direct fuel injection, Double-VANOS variable camshaft technology, and Brake Energy Regeneration.
