The new generation of BMW 5-Series Sedan which was revealed back in 2009, is now preparing to take the markets by storm starting from Europe where it goes on sale from March 20. The base price for the very basic model which is the 520d diesel equipped with a manual gearbox and start/stop system which helps it achieve average fuel consumption of 5 liter/100Km is 39,950 euros, and it goes up to 70,500 euros for the fully loaded 550i with a V8 engine.
The sedan variant joins the 5er GT which is currently on sale, and will be joined by the Estate version, a long wheelbase edition and finally in 2011, a powerful M5 model which unlike the current model won’t come with a V10, and gets a twin-charged V8 that is even more powerful! Also at his year’s Geneva Motor Show, a concept version of the car equipped with a hybrid powertrain will be shown.
2010 BMW 5er feature a very conservative design compared to the model it replaces, but it’s now more of an executive saloon in the same league as the E-Class Merc. They both look discrete and dignified, with a nice touch of sportiness. The new 5-Series might not be as mad as the current one, but it is also unfair to call it boring!
The official MSRP and options list for Europe and America should be announced in a couple of weeks.
