As we’ve said a million times, BMW’s N54 Twin-Charged inline-6 engine is a brilliant brilliant engineering work. When Jeremy Clarkson tested it on a BMW Z4, he said that the twin turbochargers of this engine are more like a pair of testis! Now though BMW has removed one of these things and made the N55 single turbo unit. But don’t think it’ll be less of a man! In the new BMW X6 it’ll generate 306 hp and 295 ft-lbs of torque.

Yes it has 5 less torque than the outgoing model but instead it has 6 more horses! And they say it’ll be more efficient mainly because it’s lighter, not by much of course but after all. The 2011 X6 will also get the firm’s new 8-speed automatic gearbox which is also tuned for efficiency. This transmission was first introduced for the 7er luxury sedan and now makes its way to this big SUV. Maybe in future we get this even in the tiny 1-series as well! That car is getting the N55 engine too, so…!
