Today Audi has two big news, sort of, for Americans! The first news is that the Audi RS5 Coupe is indeed U.S. bound and will go on sale there from 2012, and the other is the official pricing of the R8 Spyder V10. The drop-top supercar will hit the showrooms next month starting from $161,000 with manual and $170,000 with R-tronic gearbox.
Those familiar with the R8 know that the base car does not come with as much kit as you’d expect a supercar of this price should, and that’s because Audi wants to make money on options! As usual there’s long list of optional extras with pretty high prices, so it’s safe to say in real world an Audi R8 Spyder can very well cost over 200 grand. Maybe you should wait for the V8 variant of the car to arrive!
The V10 powered R8 Spyder has 525 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 391 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 rpm, which gives it a top speed of 195 mph, and 0 to 60 time of 4 seconds, theoretically. It has a lightweight spaceframe structure which is still nearly 200 lbs heavier than the coupe, quattro AWD system, and a fabric roof which goes up and down in 19 seconds, which also works while you’re moving up to speed of 31 mph.
