GPR Motorsport is preparing a new racing version of Toyota Avensis sedan for British Touring Car Championship. The car is being developed with new BTCC regulations and will make its track debut at the last round of this year’s Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. So to know what it’s really made of, you have to wait for the 2011 season.
Even though Toyota supported the team and even provided a donor car and bodyshell to build to the new specifications, they have no plans to come back to BTCC.It’s actually sad, becasue if you remember BTCC was more exciting when most of the manufacturers took part, even Americans with muscle cars. These recent years, it’s hasn’t been just as good as it used to be.
James Thompson, a BTCC double champion, will pilot the Avensis NGTC when it makes its first public race appearance at Brands Hatch on 9 – 10 October.
