Citroen revealed the new DS5 at the Shanghai Motor Show, and it is every bit as astonishing as we were expecting it to be. This fab car is a hybrid.
The DS5 is in fact the first Citroen model to feature HYbrid4 diesel hybrid technology comprising a low emission diesel engine and an electric motor which together make the car a four-wheel-drive vehicle, delivering 200 bhp, CO2 emissions of just 99g/km.
In line with other DS models, the DS5 features a cool and charming design. Based on the C-SportLounge concept, DS5 has a new type of design which is like an estate coupe, so it’s elegant and practical. Highlights of the exterior design include oversized air intake, a large chrome-finished grille housing the chevrons and a new LED light signature, and chrome-finished ‘sabre’ inserts stretching from the top of each headlamp to the windscreen.
It is 4.52m long, 1.85m wide, and offers up to 465 litres of boot space. It has five seats, four doors and all the access and modularity of a hatchback.
The interior is as marvelous as the exterior and features a cool and funky design which never become boring and also comes with lots of amazing equipments like the colour Head-Up Display that projects essential information into the driver’s line of sight and the ambient lighting bathes the cockpit in a heady mix of red and white.
The choice of materials are also astonishing, items like fine-grain Club leather and exclusive designs like the ‘watchstrap’ seat upholstery.
The one-off DS5 at the Shanghai show is finished in White Pear and features ebony-coloured full-grain leather, contrasting subtly with silver-flecked overstitching. Interior detailing includes decorative inserts in Markassa ebony and a highly reflective fascia, created by applying several layers of lacquer. DS5 White Pearl also sports specially designed 20-inch alloy wheels.
