General Motors today revealed some of the upgrades they are going to implement on the 2012MY Chevy Corvette. They include performance tweaks for Z06 and ZR1 models and interior upgrades across the whole lineup.

The looks of the 2012 ‘Vette is apparently going to be changed too but to know about that we have to wait for a special event this weekend at the National Corvette Museum where the car will be revealed.

The main technical upgrade for the high performance ZO6 and the ZR1 is the new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Zero Pressure tires, optimized for warm, dry conditions to increase cornering and handling capability. They come with Performance Traction Management (PTM) technology – which manages torque delivery for maximum performance. GM engineers reckon these tires will dramatically increase Corvette’s handling and road behavior.

Other improvements include a full-width racing-style spoiler, Magnetic Selective Ride Control for the ZO6, Brembo carbon ceramic brakes will be a part of the Z07 chassis package. Furthermore, a carbon fiber hood will be an available option on 2012 Z06 models, while the standard manual transmission for ZR1 will include taller gearing in fifth and sixth gears, for a 2-mpg improvement in highway fuel economy.

As for the interior, the 2012 Corvette a new seat design and a new steering wheel. The seats feature larger bolsters on the seat back and cushion areas, which provide better driver support, especially in high-performance driving while remaining comfortable for daily street driving. Microfiber suede seat inserts are optional and improve tactile feel, as well as add additional support. You also get a new Bose uplevel audio system with nine speakers.

There’s also a new Technology Package which enhances the Vette’s infotainment system and includes the navigation radio, head-up display, Bose premium audio system, Bluetooth wireless phone connectivity and a USB port. GM will also let you choose brake caliper colors from red, yellow, silver or gray.
