Looks like the next BMW sportscar to receive the CSL treatment is the lovely little 1 Series M Coupe.
According to sources close to BMW, they are waiting for the standard 1M Coupe to prove itself in sales. Only then the decision for making a lightweight, track-focused version, aka CSL, will be finalized.
Now those familiar with CSL, or indeed any other lightened, stripped-out, track-prepared sportscar, know that they will be brutal, very uncomfortable, as luxurious as a prison cell and of course considerably more expensive than the base model. But that’s what make them interesting! By removing all the amenities and luxury, and adding a healthy doze of power, the car transforms into a full blooded racing machine that is still road legal. That was the case with the last CSL, the E46 BMW M3.
So there’s no doubt that the CSL 1M will be an awesome car. But the issue of the price still remains. If you do some math, the 1M CSL could very well cost in the neighborhood of $100K USD. There are far better options in that price range!
