We haven’t heard of the new BMW M5 going round the Nurburgring yet. But news emerged that the car has already set a lap time of 7:55.

That time has appeared on a website indicating that a BMW test driver has set the time. So there is a possibility that is the time one of the prototypes has set. We’re are waiting for BMW’s comment on the case.

If that time turns out to be true, it’s an astonishing record for four-door saloon and makes the M5 the undisputed king of all high-performance saloons. What’s more interesting is that the new M5 has beat the time set by the old V10-powered M5 by nearly 18 seconds. That’s partly due to the new 560 hp biturbo V8 engine, and partly to the fantastic job BMW M engineers have done with the car’s chassis.
