Maybach’s Fate To Be Decided In July

Maybach 62 at Maybachs Fate To Be Decided In July

Daimler is finally going to make a final decision on Maybach in the next couple of weeks. The luxury brand is currently on life support. Should they pull the plug?

You see, the problem is Daimler has invested heavily in the Maybach, in hope to have a proper rival for Rolls Royce. But it never managed to live up to the expectations. And it never returned the investment. Last year they only made 157 units!

So it is likely for them to let it go. But, there’s one possibility to save the brand and make it profitable even.

That’s a strategic tie-up with Aston Martin. The Brits and the Germans have been negotiating a deal for a while, but nothing certain for now. The idea is, Aston Martin designs and develops an entirely new second-generation Maybach, while Mercedes takes cars of the technology and luxury stuff. This way the car won’t end up being a stretched out S Class with fancy seats. Aston in return will get engines and transmissions from Daimler.

Let’s wait and see as the story develops.
