Like its predecessor, the new Mercedes SLK55 AMG won’t get the full-fat AMG powertrain, and has to make do with a normally aspirated version of it.
That should be enough for it though. The old SLK also got a normally aspirated version of the supercharged V8 out of the SL55, and while it produced 100 hp less than its big brother, it was enough to turn the SLK into a rocketship. Not quite as fast as the SL though, which is understandable.
The new 5.35 liter V8 without its twin-turbo system will make about a hundred less horses at 416 bhp and 398 lb-ft of torque. It will apparently average 33.2 mpg and emits 199 g/k of CO2. These are great numbers for a V8 sportscar.
The 2012 Mercedes SLK 55 AMG will debut at Frankfurt Autoshow in September.
