Besides announcing a launch date for the ATS compact sedan, Cadillac also confirmed production of a large luxury saloon, the XTS.

Cadillac will also launch the XTS large luxury sedan next year, with a $117 million investment in Oshawa Assembly Plant in Ontario where 400 jobs will be created or retained.

The XTS, to be launched in spring of 2012, is based on the XTS Platinum Concept unveiled at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It will offer an advanced front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive system.

The concept var used a hybrid powertrain, consisting of a Direct Injection V-6 engine and the PHEV system featuring fully electric variable drive. This sophisticated system develops a combined power of 350 horsepower (260 kW) and 295 lb.-ft. of torque (400 Nm). It’s not clear yet if the production version gets a hybrid variant or not. Given the segment of the car, a V8 engine is a must for it.
