The new AMG version of Mercedes ML is going on sale in America in a couple of months with a base price of $95,865.

So that’s a 100 grand SUV which, in fairness, doesn’t look really good, and because of those fat tires and sport suspension and body kit, it’s probably rubbish off road as well.

But, as with every AMG hot rod, it comes with an engine that sits in the middle and dominates everything. In fact, you pay a 100 grand just to get that engine, and believe you me, it’s well worth it!

It’s a 550-hp and torque to 560 lb-ft 5.5 liter bi-turbo V8. Granted, it won’t do better than 16mpg, but who cares when it enables this massive SUV to hit 60mph from zero in 4.7 seconds, and reach a top speed of 155mph.

Get the AMG performance package and those figures are 4.6 seconds and 174mph. Mind you, that will cost another couple of thousands.

It’s a great car, but is it better than a supercharged Range Rover or turbocharged Porsche Cayenne? Tough one.
