Mercedes F1 team is currently in Barcelona, and while they’re pretty busy with their new race car, they decided to also gave us a sneak preview of the new Mercedes SL63 AMG.
Powered by the new 5.5 liter bi-turbo V8 engine, the SL63 has 537PS, more than its predecessor, but less the new BMW M6. No worries though, as there will almost certainly be an AMG package which increases that to about 570PS or so.
It should have been called the SL55 AMG, given the 5.5 liter engine, but Mercedes apparently deiced to stick with the SL63, not to confuse people with letters and numbers.
The 2013 Mercedes SL is not the prettiest SL ever built to be honest, but we have to say the AMG treatment on this car has worked really well and it does look cool.
The SL63 comes with a different front bumper which is not as muscular as the one on the current AMG cars. It’s a bit more discrete. It also has a new grille, side skirts, and a rear apron with an air diffuser and four tailpipes borrowed straight fro the current CLS63. There is also a carbon fiber boot lid wing and the usual AMG over-sized wheels.
The official debut of the car is planned for 2012 Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned for official details and more pictures in the coming days.
