While the world was waiting with bated to breath to see what Fisker has planned for its big debut night before the New York Auto Show, spy photographers caught the first outcome of project Nina, which is an entry-level car smaller and presumably more affordable than the Karma.
The Nina, as it’s known for now, has the same sort of powertrain as the Karma with an electric motor that propels it along, and a BMW-sourced four-cylinder unit as the range-extender. Let’s hope it gets better batteries than the Karma!
In Fisker’s defense, it want really their fault. The battery unit provided by A123 was faulty. It came into attention when the Karma delivered to Consumer Reports died because of the issue. Now they’ve issued a recall to replace the batteries, even though they don’t have enough funds and… That’s a sad story.
Anyway, the entry-level Nina will be launched 2013 or 2014 with a projected price of between $50,000 and $60,000. The car will rival Tesla Model S.
