Yesterday we brought to you the first pictures of a new Mercedes concept car, called the Style Coupe, and today we got the official details of this bad boy. The elegant four-door coupe previews an upcoming produciton model based on the new Mercedes A-Class – allegedly called the CLA – and will make its world debut at the Beijing Motor Show in China, which is soon. Before that it makes a brief stop at the Avant/Garde Diaries event in Los Angeles
The car is cheaper, smaller alternative to the Mercedes CLS, the car that started this four-door coupe segment. It has roughly the same profile, with a curvatious roof, sweeping curve from the front wheel towards the rear, and of course, rubbish rear headroom. But it is achingly beautiful. Not sure if the production version will be just as stunning, but still. It may retain the panoramic roof, but it sue will lose the 21-inch wheels.
And it’s just a pretty face either. This car is sophisticated. The Style coupe is powered by a 2.0-litre version of the new petrol engine generation with 211 hp, and features a 7G-DCT dual clutch automatic transmission, as well as 4Matic AWD system. Now, that’s a bit of a worry, because 211 hp does not sound like enough for a car this good-looking, and 4Matic means it will be almost boringly grippy.
Don’t despair though, because we hear there will be an AMG version of this car with well over 300 hp and rear-wheel-drive. That is going to be scrumptious.
One cool feature of the Style Coupe is the new COMMAND system it comes with, which works completely online. The software for the COMAND Online applications is not stored in the vehicle, but runs off the Daimler Vehicle Backend. This way Daimler can update the software over-the-air and add new features to it.
