Let’s very quickly recap what we have learned so far about the 2013 Mercedes SL550: The car has a 430-hp twin-turbo 4.7 liter V8 – not the full-fat AMG 5.5 liter, but still pretty gutsy – it’s fast, very fast, so fast in fact that it makes the 530-hp SL63 seem kinda pointless, and it has a controversial design. Although, that last part is a common problem with all versions of the new SL. To give you the lowdown on the 550, it is very good at being a big, fast, luxurious Benz, but it’s not a sports car, and you have to decide if you can live with the way it looks.

The 2013 Mercedes SL 550 with options like Magic View roof and Air Scarf will set you back, in America, very nearly $125,000.
