Volkswagen Cross Up at Volkswagen drops the Rockton and builds new SUVs

Volkswagen dropped its intention to proceed with the production of a SUV based on the Suzuki SX4, the Rockton; the agreement between the 2 car makers appears to be at its end now.

There is now a rumor that VW might deploy 2 new production cars soon. According to business publication Handelsblatt, VW will come up with two new compact SUV’s – intention is that both are positioned just below Tiguan’s segment.

Albrecht Reimold, head-chief for the VW factory in Slovakia, where the Up is currently being built, said the range will be expanded to new variants. Aware that the modular platform allows even more spin-offs, he speaks about producing several of the prototypes of the Up that have recently been featured in auto shows. For now the strongest options are the Cross Up (with a price set below 20.000 Euros) and the Buggy Up, which may arise as a unique option in this segment.

Moreover, it is said that VW wants to design a SUV based on the Polo platform, this to rival the Opel Mokka and the forthcoming Peugeot 2008.
