Right now the only V8-powered version of the Mercedes ML is the ML63 AMG. But that’s about to change, as Mercedes announced a new addition to the ML lineup, the ML 500 BlueEFFICIENCY version powered by the same turbocharged V8 engine you find in the new SL500. It offers 408 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque, and starts at around 63,000 Euro.
The ML500 is 125 horsepower weaker than the ML63 AMG, and roughly a second slower to 100 km/h, but then it’s 30 grand cheaper and will be more fuel efficient as well. It doesn’t get any sort of body kit or big fancy wheels though. It looks pretty much like the ML350.
Some of the fuel saving features the ML500 is blessed with include the ECO start/stop function which comes as standard, and the seven-speed 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission with Eco mode. It also gets low-friction axle drives, electric steering, optimised belt drive and on-demand control of the ancillary components.
As with the other versions of the new ML, you ave lots of options when it comes to luxury and convenience. You get the optional multicontour seats for driver and front passenger, the COMMAND infotainment system Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG high-end surround sound system, and on top of all this, the AMG Exterior Sports package, featuring special body-coloured front apron, rear apron and side skirts, in addition to 48.3 cm(19″) 5-spoke high-sheen AMG alloy wheels. Not to mention a designo interior package is also available.
