After a couple of appearances here and here, the Mercedes CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake finally gets official. This is the only car of its kind in the world right now, a 525 horsepower luxury four-door estate, with 0-100 km/h time of 4.4 seconds and up to 1550 litres of cargo room. Not sure if you need all those things at the same time, but it’s good know you can have them in one package.
Powering the CLS63 Shooting Brake is the same 5.5 liter twin-turbo V8 you find in almost all members of the AMG family. Normally it makes 386 kW (525 hp) and 700 Nm, but the Edition 1 special edition which is available at launch boosts that to 410 kW (557 hp) and 800 Nm. An incredible amount of power in what’s basically a family wagon.
Official fuel consumption figures Mercedes claims for this car is 10.1 litres per 100 kilometres combined, but as is the case with these figures, they are a couple of liters short of what you really get in the real world. With that engine you always keep your foot planted to hear more of the exhaust noise, and that will affect your consumption dramatically.
Despite being a wagon, to drive the CLS63 SB is a true AMG product. he AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension, with steel suspension struts on the front axle and air suspension struts on the rear axle, as well as automatic level control, is enhanced further by an electronically controlled damping system; it automatically adjusts the damping characteristics depending on the driving conditions and reduces the roll angle of the body.
