The charismatic, but overly ambitious, ex-boss of Lotus Dany Bahar is suing his former employers over unlawful termination of his contract. Lotus owner, the Malaysian DRB, suspended and then fired Bahar a few months ago over complaints about his conduct. Bahar says DRB is talking rubbish, and he’s suing them for 6.7 million pounds ($10.6 million).
As a former employee of Red Bull and Ferrari, Bahar had this idea of turning Lotus into a full-on super car maker. You sure remember his five-car plan, and his frankly pointless efforts in teaming up with Mansory and Swiss Beatz the rapper.
DRB obviously has no toleration for this kinda of conduct. You see, they bought Proton for its taxi business, and because Proton owned Lotus, by transitive property they inherited Lotus. They don’t really want it, which is why every now and again we hear rumors about the company being put on sale.
But now with Bahar gone, DRB is determined to get things back in order at the Norfolk-based company by putting one of their own managers in charge, and his first order of business is to cancel Bahar’s five-car project.
In reaction to the news of Bahar suing the company, Lotus and DRB announced they will “vigorously” oppose and defend the claim.
