Mercedes is recalling a select number of 2011 G-Class model in North America to fix an issue with their airbag system. There is apparently a faulty molding strip used in the system that can brake in case of an accident, so when the airbags are deployed bits of it can become projectile, practically shrapnel flying around the cabin!
The affected models are the G-Wagens built between September 20, 2010, and April 27, 2011, and includes both G550 and G55 AMG models. If you own one of those cars you better have it fixed soon because you do need proper airbags in a car like the G-Class with its virtually vertical windscreen. Mercedes dealerships across the States will fix the problem free of charge.
