Turns out the the GTI and XY are not the only versions of Peugeot 208 coming to this year’s Paris Motor Show. They just released this teaser image which belongs to Peugeot 208 Type R5, a Super 2000 rally car, which will go on sale after its Paris debut in the 2nd half of 2013 to take part in national and international rally competitions.

Earlier this year Peugeot unveiled the R2 rally car which is like a diet version of this car. The R5 is more serious and follows the footsteps of monsters like 206 and 207 Super 2000 rally cars. Compared to the 207, this car is about 40 kg lighter, and it has a 1.6 liter turbo instead of the old 2.0 liter engine. The 208 R5 will have 280 horsepower (final specs are not confirmed yet).

Maximum price of the R5 will be €180,000. To reduce the running costs, Peugeot has been working tirelessly on the engine’s reliability, so they can guarantee – at least verbally – a potential 5000 kilometres of trouble-free rallying.

The R5 can compete in Intercontinental Rally Challenge, European Rally Championship, and other national championships. Details and pictures of the car will be released closer to the Paris Motor Show.
