Smart Fortwo (or FourTwo) is quite a popular little car in Europe. But we’re not sure how its fans would react to the next generation of the car, to be previewed by the Smart ForStars Concept at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. It looks like a creepy cartoon character, and even though it looks chunkier and more muscular, it is still a super compact car with a length of 3.5 meters.
The wheelbase in the concept car is about 6cm longer than the fortwo though. The production version, due in late 2013, will probably adapt the same dimensions as the ForStars, but we hope they revise the looks. That said, there are some good features in the study concept that should be used in the final version; stuff like that slopping roofline, or the glass panoramic roof.
It would have been nice if they could retain the concept’s massive 21-inch wheels – wrapped in 245/35 ZR Michelin tires – as well, but it’s highly unlikely. The Alubeam rouge wet look paint job and the titanium-coloured tridion cell are among the other nice features that won’t make it into the production.
This concept cars borrows its powertrain from the smart fortwo BRABUS electric drive. It has a magneto-electric motor tuned to give 60kW and 135 Nm of torque. Backed by a lithium-ion battery that has a capacity of 17.6 kWh, Smart ForStars can reach a top speed of 130 km/h.
