To be honest we didn’t pay attention to the electric vehicles class at this year’s Pikes Peak hill climb after we found out that Monster Tajima has retired due to problems with his EV. But turns out we should have, because Toyota did an amazing performance with their innocuous looking P002 racer, and set a new record of 10mins 15.380secs — a full two minutes better than the previous one.
In this footage you get to see every twist and turn of the famous Colorado hill and also witness the electric race car in action. The P002 has evolved from a track car and has two electric motors that make the equivalent of 470 horsepower. The Pikes Peak record-setting car was driven by Fumio Nutahara.
