The new Mercedes SL65 AMG hits dealerships today, starting from €236,334 for the normal model and €272,034 for the SL 65 AMG 45th ANNIVERSARY Edition. So it is about 140 grand more than a SL350, but an uninterested eye won’t be able to tell them apart. That’s a bit rough, but then an SL65 is the car for those who want to be discreetly fast.
The 2013 model continues to have the V12 twin-turbo power plant, but this time around it gets 630 horsepower and over a thousand newton meters of torque. As a result, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 4 seconds, with the 200 km/h mark being attained after just 11.8 seconds. The top speed is 250 km/h (electronically limited).
Now you might be thinking it is very nearly as fast as a SL63 AMG, why should I spend an extra 70 grand for the SL65? Well, the SL63 can be a bit too loud and too brash at times, whereas the SL65 is always dignified, always classy.
