The new Volkswagen Polo BlueGT is gearing up for its market launch in mid-December. As orders book open for the car in UK, the company releases the pricing details for the frugal new Polo. It starts at £17,400, which to be honest is a bit steep.
Seventeen grand is a lot to pay for a tiny three-door hatchback. But then VW says this car offers the best compromise you can have between tolerable performance and excellent fuel economy.
Polo BlueGT is powered by a turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine producing 140 PS and 250 Nm (185 lbs ft) of torque, which takes the car from 0 to 62 mph in 7.9 second, and onto a stop speed of 130 mph. It does that while averaging 61.4 mpg on the combined cycle while emitting just 107 g/km of CO2. And it does that with either of the six-speed manual or the seven-speed DSG transmission.
The BlueGT is also generously equipped. On the outside it gets some of the Polo GTI visual features including the rear spoiler, rear bumper with diffuser, plus front bumper with LED daytime running lights. Standard specification includes DAB radio with iPod connectivity, cruise control, Bluetooth phone connection and XDS electronic differential lock.
