What we used to know as the BMW 3-Series Coupe will be known from now on as the new 4-Series. And here it is, in full production trim, getting ready for a possible 2013 Detroit debut. The car appears to have the side profile of the current E92 3er, but front and rear-end designs are new.
That’s where the new car shows its resemblance to the F30 3-Series. Engine-wise, you get the 428i model with the brilliant 2.0 liter turbo engine found in the current 328i, and a 435i or 440i with the next generation twin-turbo in-line six. The 4-Series Coupe will go into production in July 2013, and the convertible will follow in November.
So the 4-Series will distinguish BMW’s mid-range sport coupes from the 3-Series, which will include a sedan, a touring and a GT model. The 4-series lineup will include a coupe, a convertible, and a Gran Coupe version. It should make understanding BMW’s range a tad easier.
