Lexus works driver Akira Iida released a picture of a mysterious LFA prototype race car on his Twitter account, fueling rumors of a new endurance series version of the Japanese super car. This could be the long-awaited Lexus LFA GTE, set to compete in LMS series from next year.

It makes a lot of sense for Lexus to expand the LFA’s racing career in Le Mans Series, seeing as the car was designed and developed in such venues. Before the LFA becomes a production model, prototypes of it used to race at the Nurburgring 24 hours where the engineers perfected the chassis and honed the V10 engine.

Now the GTE version will take things to the next level for the LFA, putting it against rivals such as Aston Martin and Ferrari and Porsche in one of the world’s most popular forms of motorsport.
