After delivering more than 1,300 units of the Aventador coupe in just over one year, Lamborghini decided it’s time to introduce the drop-top version of the car to the world. Meet the 2013 Lamborghini Aventador roadster. And first things first, it’s not a full-on roadster.
This car features a two-piece removable carbon fiber hardtop, so it’s actually more of a targa affair. You still get the air in you hair though, and you can hear that V12 soundtrack even more clearly, so who cares if it’s not a full-blooded roadster.
Weighing only 6 kilograms, the roof can be installed or removed in a matter of seconds, and it can be stored in the front luggage compartment. It is a very simple job, unlike the roof on the Murcielago Roadster which needed two technicians and two hours to build. Still, some Aventador customers might not like the fact that they need to do some manual labor to put roof up or down.
With the Roadster comes a new engine hood. It consists of two pairs of hexagonal windows connected at the sides. It looks very cool, puts the V12 on display or everybody to see, and also helps with cooling. Other unique features include powered rear windshield, contrasting color for the pillars – which are by the way stiffened for the sake of safety, Dione 20″/21″ rims, and some new colours exclusive to the Roadster.
Performance-wise, the Roadster has the same 700-hp V12 engine, ISR 7-speed gearbox and push-rod suspension as the coupe. So it does 0 to 100 km/h in 3 seconds and can reach a top speed of 350 km/h.
And as for the price, well, it’s 300,000 euro, or about $400k USD after taxes and stuff.
