Opel announced they are coming back to motorsport, and they are giving the little Adam a major role in this plan. A rally version of the Opel Adam is being prepared to compete in ADAC Rally Masters series. There is also a circuit racing program going on with the Astra OPC Cup.
The Adam Rally car is the perfect tool for beginners, especially as it’s made to comply with FIA R2 standards. Opel and ADAC have devised a plan to encourage young drivers. Talented rally drivers can graduate from the “ADAC Opel Rally Cup” to an international level. In the first two of four stages, the ADAM will be employed. In stages three and four the next generation Opel Corsa is expected to be the rally vehicle.
As for the Astra OPC Cup, the car is built to meet VLN series standards, so its basically an endurance racer. The cars will also compete in a brand trophy in their own class (“Astra OPC Cup”). The highlight of the season is expected to be a 24-hour race on the Nurburgring race track. It is also an affordable race car for private teams willing to compete in various endurance races.
It’s good to see Opel back on the track, even though it’s nothing like the olden days, the DTM days.
