Last year Mazda announced they are in talks with Fiat to make a new two-seater roadster for Alfa Romeo. Now both companies sign the final agreement to make it officially official, they outline the car’s production plan.
Alfa’s new Roadster will be based on the next Mazda MX-5. The idea is that both cars will feature the same rear-wheel-drive chassis that Mazda is developing for the next Miata, but each car gets its own unique design and engines.
That is pretty much perfect. Well, at least the Alfa part is. Imagine a two-seater roadster with Alfa’s charming design and fabulous engines, based on the MX-5’s absolutely brilliant chassis and running gear. We can’t think of anything better than that.
Oh, and don’t worry about the reliability. Both models will be built by Mazda at its Hiroshima plant in Japan. Production is set to start in 2015.
