Shelby American’s lineup for the 2013 Detroit Motor Show included an aggressive-looking hot hatchback, and an insanely powerful version of the already bonkers Shelby GT500. Meet the new Shelby Super Snake Widebody.

Based on the 662-hp Shelby GT500, the Super Snake gets a significant boost up to 850 horsepower, and it’s still street-legal and 50 state emissions legal. Now, they haven’t revealed what kind of witchcraft they’ve applied to that supercharged Ford engine to get this kind of power out of it, but we are more interested in seeing what kind of effect it will have on the car’s performance. Those poor rear tires!

Beside the engine tuning, the Super Snake also features the new widebody kit, mainly designed to accommodate 13 inch-wide rear and 10 inch-wide front wheels. A car with this level of performance needs those ultra-fat tires to get some traction. There is also a carbon front splitter, larger tail spoiler, rear diffuser and side skirts.

The post-title package for the 2013 Shelby GT500 Super Snake starts at $28,995 (662 hp) and $39,995 (850 hp). The wide body option adds another $17,995, not including the base GT500. Good to know.
