This is the latest Silver Arrow, the 2013 Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 car, known as the W04. They unveiled the car at Jerez in Spain ahead of the official testing session, with Nico Rosberg at the wheel and Lewis Hamilton on the sidelines filming him with his BlackBerry 10.
It’s not just Lewis who gets a new Berry. Everyone at Mercedes AMG F1 gets one, as part of a new partnership deal between the German F1 team and the American smartphone maker. Mercedes says there is more to this partnership than just marketing opportunities. They will also collaborate on technical programs, such as communication platforms and app development.
So this season BlackBerry logo will appear on the chassis and headrest of the F1 W04 Silver Arrow, the racesuits of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, and on the team’s racewear kit.
Ross Brawn, Team Principal at the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team commented: “On the day that our new Silver Arrow, the F1 W04, is launched, we are very pleased to announce our partnership with BlackBerry. We are looking forward to embracing the new BlackBerry 10 platform at both a technical and operational level, as well as collaborating with the team at BlackBerry to bring new mobile innovation to MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS. It is especially pleasing to be able to launch this exciting partnership today as our latest Silver Arrow takes to the track with BlackBerry branding.”
