The Estate version of the new Volkswagen Golf, known as the Variant, makes its debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Based on the same MQB platform as the Golf VII hatchback, the Estate is a physically larger car than the model it replaces, but it’s also 105 kg lighter.

Dimension-wise, boasting a length of 4,562 mm, the Golf Estate is 307 mm longer than the hatchback version. It offers a load capacity of  605 liters, expandable to 1,620 liters once you fold the rear seats away. Both those numbers are considerably more than the previous Golf Estate.

The engine lineup comprises of a couple of petrol units, including a 1.2-liter TSI 105 PS, a 1.4-liter TSI 122 PS and a 1.4-liter TSI ACT 140 PS. It also comes as a BlueMotion range, with a 1.6-liter TDI 105 PS or a 2.0-liter TDI 150 PS. What’s more, you can have the new Estate with 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system.

The new Golf Estate (Variant) won’t reach the market until October.
