BMW 328d Diesel Set for New York Auto Show Debut

BMW 3 Series NYAS 545x370 at BMW 328d Diesel Set for New York Auto Show Debut

At the upcoming 2013 New York Auto Show BMW will reveal a diesel version of the 3-Series sedan for the American market. More and more car makers are launching diesel models in the U.S., and BMW doesn’t want to miss out on this potentially vast market.

The BMW 328d is powered by a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine rated at 180 horsepower and 380NM (280 lb-ft ) of torque. They say it will do over 40 US MPG highway, and as for the performance, it goes from 0 to 60 in 7.2 seconds. BMW has a habit of underrating itself, so it’s probably faster than that.

Also on display at New York is the new 3-Series Gran Turismo model. The previous BMW GT, the 5-Series, had an utterly disappointing performance in the U.S., but for some reason BMW thinks the 3er can be successful. Well, not with those looks we’re afraid. The 3 Series GT features a longer wheelbase, more rear seat room and flexible luggage space with an optional panoramic moonroof, and comes with a TwinPower Turbo 4 cylinder or inline 6-cylinder engine.

The Bavarian car maker will also showcase its latest connectivity technologies such as 4G LTE mobile hotspot accessory and BMW Apps.
