Tesla announced that the entry-level Model S with 40 kWh battery pack has been discontinued due to lack of demand. Those who had ordered the 40 kWh model will be receive a Model S equipped with the 60 kWh model. You can also go for the full-fat 80 kWh version.
Tesla has not yet announced the pricing details, but those 4 percent who wanted the 40 kWh model should be prepared to pay the difference for the one with beefier battery and get the 230 miles range promised for it. You may also stay with the standard 160 miles range, which is what the 40 version would have delivered, and enjoy the better performance. But you are far better off with greater range than better performance.
Every new Tesla Model S now comes as standard with the supercharger hardware which means you can fast charge your car at Tesla Supercharger stations located in key areas between important states.
