Last week we had a report that the Guinness Book of World Records has stripped the Bugatti Veyron SuperSport of its record as the fastest production car in the world after they found out the production version of the car is fitted with a speed limiter that doesn’t allow customers to achieve what the record-breaking car did. Now there is a development to that story.
Apparently, Bugatti and Guinness had a little chat and the world record people are now convinced that the speed limiter malarkey wasn’t a big deal after all. So they gave the Veyron SS its record back, saying that “a change to the speed limiter does not alter the fundamental design of the car or its engine.”
So once again the Bugatti Veyron SuperSport is the fastest car in the world with an official record of 267.8 mph (430.98 km/h). The Veyron SS you can buy only manages 258 mph (415 km/h), which is probably enough to justify the car’s 2 million euro price tag.
Bugatti also posses the world record for the fastest convertible car with the Bugatti Vitesse World Record Car which recently clocked 254.04 mph (408.84 km/h) at Ehra-Lessien.
